JMCL Continued Support of the Tour of Cambridgeshire

JMCL Continued Support of the Tour of Cambridgeshire

I’m delighted that JMCL’s support the Tour of Cambridge (ToC) continues in 2020.

We consider it a great fit with our Enlightened Procurement approach to serving our clients, improving their profits in a way that’s long-term sustainable and right for the whole business.

ToC 2020 is on 6th and 7th of June and is based out of the East of England Arena, just off the A1 near Peterborough.

What is the Tour of Cambridgeshire (ToC)?

The ToC cycling festival comprises family events, a closed road Individual Time Trial (ITT), Team Time Trial (TTT) and Gran Fondo (GF).

These events are for amateurs not professional cyclists, between the ages of 18 and 70+yrs.  The festival is also hosting an inaugural non-competitive 100 mile cyclo sportive , the ToC 100, on fully closed roads with over 5000 riders already entered www.tourofcambridgeshire.com .

A Gran Fondo is a type of long-distance road cycling ride originating in Italy in 1970, and roughly translates into English as “Big Ride”.    The UCI Gran Fondo at ToC is a UCI qualifying event for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, which gives amateur riders the chance to qualify and represent their country. The event is held on fully closed roads and is a mass participation event, with a mass start.

The event also offers the chance for families to ride.  The Family Fondo is perfect for all abilities; it uses a fully closed circuit, which consists of 2-miles of all sorts of terrains.

What’s New in 2020?

The 2020 ToC will has a new sustainable theme. Teaming up with the Big Plastic Pledge, this sees a number of new initiatives at the event:

  • Eliminating single-use plastic bottles
  • Using water bowsers to distribute water
  • Having big recycling centres available and managed at the Event HQ and Pit Stops
  • Extra litter stops available out on the route
  • Ensuring no Pit Stop food is distributed in any packaging
  • Working with exhibitors to ensure no plastic is given to the consumer in any way
  • All food and drink concessions to use non-plastic or compostable cartons and cups
  • All staff, volunteers, officials to use multi-use drinks bottles and mugs for hot drinks

It’s an initiative that we are firmly behind. The Big Plastic Pledge was founded by Hannah Mills; an Olympic gold and silver medallist, a sailor and an IOC sustainability ambassador who saw at first hand the devastating effect that plastic pollution was causing.
