Our detailed Operational and Financial Modelling underpins the variety of services we offer. Our services include strategic planning, bid support, analysis of in-house operations, valuations, sales or acquisitions whether as a stand-alone assignment or supporting our other divisions.
1) Business Strategy Planning
Our analysis includes both an external and internal dimension. Externally, we look at the competitive structure in your industry, market trends and the likely impact of such factors as technological or regulatory changes. Internally we review all aspects of your business operations to ascertain the degree of “fit” both with your objectives and the external market, so as to identify the best way forward. The resulting business plan is therefore sensitive both to your needs and the competitive context in which you operate.
Our functional breadth is one of the key benefits in using JMCL. The line management experience in our team spans corporate strategy, finance, sales, marketing, operations and procurement. As a result, you can be sure of realistic and practical plans that are based on a deep knowledge of the key drivers in all areas of business performance.
Our work in this area has included reviews and performance improvement plans for the in-house businesses of FTSE 100 groups, as well as the development and exit strategies for small to medium sized enterprises.
2) Operations and Financial Modelling; Bid Support
We model the processes and operations within the business and reflect the commercial aspects of these via a financial model which ultimately reflects cash flows but incorporates P&L and Balance Sheet information. We apply sensitivity analysis to the underlying models to assess the outcomes under differing scenarios and the risk profile under each model.
Combined with our Procurement knowledge, we undertake a lot of work supporting clients when they are bidding for large Print & Document management contracts or acquiring businesses, particularly when these involve in-house operations. Our work includes valuing the bid or target and identifying and modelling how to achieve savings and synergies. We also handle valuations and the end-to-end sale transaction for those owners interested in selling businesses.
3) Business Case, Raising Finance & Investment Appraisal
We will prepare business cases for any required investment using them to raise finance from within an organisation or from external funding providers. We have our own proven methodology which we will adapt to the particular format and internal requirements of your organisation. We complement our rigorous financial analysis with a sound and practical business understanding.
From the perspective of our client’s who are finance providers we use the same techniques to appraise investment requests, stress testing them before funding decisions are made. We will then monitor investments once funding is given against original projections
4) Acquisitions, valuations and sale
We calculate the value of businesses and in-house operations and handle the end-to-end transaction whether it be acquisition or disposal. We have published papers on the subject.
Our Corporate Finance activities are stand alone or support our work in the Procurement and Print & Document Management divisions. We have experience in many industries with particular expertise in the Print, Waste and Environmental sectors.
5) In-House Operations
Our work with in-house operations goes back to when we were established in 1993 and dovetails perfectly with our Procurement activities. We specialise in analysing internal operations and have developed and refined, over many years, a unique methodology for determining the optimal strategy for them and their parent. Rather than just retain or outsource we have nine options which we apply and model before making our recommendations.
Our approach is intensely practical since we are usually requested to implement our recommendations whether this be to enhance the operation or to outsource it. We are thoroughly attuned to the sensitive people aspects of these assignments and accustomed to working with in-house managers and staff whose future will be affected by our recommendations.
